Welcome to the website of the Friends of Leeds City Museums.
This site was last updated March 7th 2024, and is updated on a regular basis.
The City of Leeds has a vast and proud heritage and the inventiveness of its citizens, and the quality of their manufactured products are known and revered throughout the world that they helped to develop.
The Museums of Leeds are the guardians of this heritage, and it is their prime purpose to protect and preserve through acquisitions and collections as much of this history and culture as is reasonably possible.
Established over forty years ago the Friends of Leeds City Museums is an independent voluntary organisation of charitable status open to all for a modest membership fee.
By joining the Friends you would have an inside track to the workings of the museums, be kept up to date on new acquisitions and exhibitions, be eligible for free entry to the fee-paying sites and qualify for discounts offered from time to time.
More than that, by taking part in regular organised trips you would meet and travel with others who share your interests to visit museums and other places of historical significance in various parts of the country and, occasionally, abroad. All of these activities contribute towards the funding of acquisitions which would not otherwise be accessible without help from the ‘Friends’.
Why not complete a membership form, (please note that the download for the membership form does not always work with the latest Google Chrome browsers as it appears to save it but does not open it. We are looking into this but please try Microsoft Edge or Safari instead) available on this website or alternatively pick one up on your next visit to any of the Leeds museums.
We look forward to welcoming you on board.
Yours sincerely
John Luxton, Chair of Friends of Leeds City Museums
