We are not the only organisation to have helped kick start and support this campaign.
The Art Fund have helped considerably with an initial grant of £25,000 towards the Hoard’s total value of £171,310.
The Leeds Philosophical & Literary Society
Like us, the Phil & Lit Society have donated £5,000 and are also leading on this appeal to raise donations from the public.
The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, also known as the Goldsmiths’ Company, was founded to regulate the craft or trade of the goldsmith. It has been responsible for testing the quality of gold and silver since 1300. Part of their remit is charity and education, and they have generously given us a grant to support the acquisition of this gold hoard.
PARTNERS
The Portable Antiquities Scheme
The Portable Antiquities Scheme is managed by the British Museum and administered by Finds Liaison Officers and National Finds Advisors based in museums and councils across England and Wales. They are responsible for recording archaeological objects found by the public, and publishing them on their database www.finds.org.uk.
The British Museum
The British Museum administers the Treasure Act (1996) on behalf of the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The Treasure Valuation Committee researches all items of Treasure and advises the Secretary of State on the valuation to be set in order for museums to acquire them. Furthermore, staff at the British Museum provide help and advice to all parties throughout the entire process.
