The Friends contributes to the acquisition (purchasing or getting possession of) and restoration of museum objects at Leeds City Museum, The Discovery Centre, Kirkstall Abbey, Abbey House Museum, Thwaite Mills and Leeds Industrial Museum. It also provides funding for items at the dedicated galleries of Temple Newsam and Lotherton Hall, which by the nature of their histories, fulfil the joint functions of Art and Heritage.
Most recently we worked with the Leeds Philosophical and Literary Association to raise funds for the purchase of the West Yorkshire Hoard.
A full list of projects that the friends have supported can be seen here but a few snapshots include more about the Restoration of Jack the Steam Engine, The Savage Club Chair, The Harrison Clock and the piano at Lotherton Hall. Recent purchases that we have helped fund include a dress belonging to Mary Holden Illingworth.
